Job Description

Summary

Seeking a Geotechnical Inspector to oversee field construction activities and verify compliance with project plans, specifications, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections for piles, deep foundations, compacted fills, ground improvement, utilities, concrete, rebar, pavements, and sitework.
  • Observe field operations, verify grades and alignments, and document construction progress.
  • Conduct soil, material, and concrete sampling; perform field/lab tests including density testing and permeability.
  • Review drawings and specifications; communicate deviations to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain daily logs, prepare sketches, and support preparation of reports, certifications, and cost estimates.
  • Oversee drilling operations, test pits, borings, CPTs, and installation/monitoring of wells.
  • Collect soil and groundwater samples; support environmental audits, mapping, and data summaries.
  • Assist engineers with remediation projects and mentor junior staff.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment; follow all environmental and OSHA safety standards.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; or HS Diploma/GED with 1–4 years of related inspection or geotechnical field experience.
  • Experience with fills, foundations, utilities, retaining walls, asphalt, concrete, and general site construction.

Certifications:

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER required.
  • ACI, NICET, NJ DCA Special Inspector, and Nuclear Density Gauge certifications are a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Compensation

Base salary: $50,000–$70,000, plus mileage reimbursement.
