Job Description

The Tax Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the company meets all federal, state, and local tax obligations while identifying opportunities that support the business and its shareholders. This role blends technical tax expertise, strategic problem-solving, and process improvement within a fast-paced, growing organization. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in corporate income tax compliance, federal and state tax returns, consolidated filings, and tax research, along with a passion for improving tax processes through technology and automation. In this role, you will manage complex tax compliance work, support tax planning initiatives, mentor junior team members, and help build scalable tax processes that support continued company growth—including the integration of newly acquired entities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review federal and state corporate income tax returns, including consolidated federal returns and unitary state filings.
  • Support tax planning and transaction initiatives by preparing tax calculations and reporting related to Form 1120-S and corporate tax structures.
  • Review and resolve tax entry discrepancies and communicate with federal and state tax authorities as needed.
  • Assist with fiduciary and individual income tax returns, tax estimates, and related filings when required.
  • Participate in federal and state tax audits, compiling documentation and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze corporate and shareholder data to identify tax planning opportunities, risk areas, and operational improvements.
  • Conduct technical tax research and prepare documentation to support positions and ensure compliance with evolving tax laws.
  • Interpret federal, state, and local tax regulations and assess internal policies for compliance and efficiency.
  • Support post-acquisition integration of newly acquired companies into existing tax compliance processes and workpapers.
  • Identify potential tax efficiencies and optimization opportunities related to acquisitions and corporate structure.
  • Evaluate current tax processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Leverage tax technology and automation tools to streamline compliance and reporting workflows.
  • Develop proficiency in industry-leading tax platforms including OneSource and RIA Checkpoint.
  • Partner with teams across the organization—including Accounting, Construction, Supply & Distribution, and Legal—to ensure accurate tax treatment and information flow.
  • Support tax leadership in maintaining best-in-class corporate tax processes and governance

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 5+ years of corporate income tax experience including federal and state tax compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state income tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing corporate tax returns, consolidated filings, and multistate tax returns.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage high-volume tax compliance deadlines in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
